First created was a bluetooth cell phone, then a bluetooth computer, along with other bluetooth accessories such as headsets, car kits, speakers and now we have bluetooth printers. This also allows you to connect all the workstations in your office to one printer, so you don’t have to spend money on additional printers or a complicated LAN connection.  While these adapters are not quite as good as built in technology, they are usually far cheaper than buying a new printer and still provide many of the benefits.

The choice to buy a bluetooth printer is especially great for small businesses that do not use a lot of computers or laptops. Plus it’s a great way to save on your equipment cost because everyone can share. Bluetooth enabled printers do have limited range from about 30 to 300 feet depending on the hardware configuration. So you need to be within the range to be able to take printouts without any hassle.  There are many different models, and as with all technology, the further away you want to be, the higher the cost of the printer to make the technology work.

One thing to keep in mind is a bluetooth printer is not designed for heavy office use with many, many people all trying to print at the same time.  For this purpose, you need a network printer that is better able to schedule print jobs.

You can not only take printouts from a bluetooth enabled computer but you can also use your cell phone to print images or documents on the bluetooth printer. You just have to search for the bluetooth enabled printer on your phone and then select the print option. It’s that easy.  How cool is it that you can just print images right from your phone without plugging it in?

However it’s important to avoid setting your bluetooth printer in the “discoverable mode” as there are chances that your IP address can be hacked by anyone within the vicinity. This issue is common with bluetooth enabled phones, PDAs and computers where hackers connect to the device by using familiar names.  You should only use this setting when initially connecting it to your network, and once done, make sure you turn it off.  If you connect to their device then it could prove very dangerous as they may have access to all you important documents. Plus the hackers will also use it to send across virus and crash your operating system.  This was not meant to scare you away from a bluetooth printer, but merely to point out some potential issues that can arise if you are not careful with security protocols.
